What I'm doing outside of fitness classes right now and what I'm learning
All of my time outside of yoga/fitness is spent with my husband and kids. Abbie's a freshman at Notre Dame studying math, and we FaceTime and text several times a day. My son Drew is a sophomore at Noblesville High School. He's on the varsity track team as a high and long jumper. His gift is high jump (6'2" is his best), and I spend time each week teaching yoga to both the boys'/girls' jump squads and attending indoor meets on the weekends. My husband Todd is my best friend, an amazing cook, and a huge supporter of my yoga habit.
What I'm focusing on in my practice and what I'm learning
Those who practice with me will recognize this phrase, "Moving in slow motion." When I first started practicing yoga, I tried so hard to 'keep up.' I wanted to move at the pace of the practice even if I hadn't gotten my full enjoyment out of a posture. My focus for the last year or so has been to SLOOOOW DOOOWN. There's beauty in the transition, in the settling, in the stillness, and then in the transition again. I'm usually 3 breaths and 5 steps behind... and I love it.
A purchase I'm enjoying and for which I'm grateful
Last year, my mom bought me a messenger bag that I use for all of my fitness paraphernalia: music, microphone belts, windscreens, class notes. I use it EVERY DAY. It's a small and simple gift for which I'm really grateful.
